Gabriel Gonzalez

Gabriel Gonzalez

Secretary | Founding Board Member

Gabriel Gonzalez was born and raised in Chicago, spending his early years in the Little Village neighborhood, where he attended Joseph E. Gary Elementary School. Growing up in a community rich in culture but often challenged by limited access to resources, Gabriel developed an early awareness of the systemic barriers many young people face and the importance of discipline, exposure, and opportunity in shaping outcomes.

He continued his education on the city's Southwest Side, graduating from William J. Bogan High School before attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During his time there, he was a founding member of Omega Delta Fraternity in 1997, reflecting an early commitment to leadership, brotherhood, and community-building. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration in Psychology, and later received his Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law.

Gabriel also played a key role in strengthening Latino representation and support systems at his alma mater, serving as a founding board member of the Illinois Latino/Latina Alumni Association. The organization continues to support Latino students through scholarships, mentorship, and programming — an effort rooted in the belief that access and community can change trajectories.

Transportation has been a defining thread throughout Gabriel's life. As part of a third-generation railroad family, he was introduced early to the discipline and responsibility the industry demands. He began his career at Cornerstone Systems, where he built a foundation in intermodal logistics, later advancing into leadership roles at Richard Daniels Transportation, managing multi-market operations with a focus on efficiency and safety.

He went on to join Union Pacific Railroad, where he held key leadership roles managing rail operations across Texas, including complex cross-border coordination between the United States and Mexico. In these roles, Gabriel balanced operational performance with safety, while navigating relationships with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and international partners.

From 2021 to 2024, Gabriel returned to Chicago to serve as a front-line manager with the Chicago Transit Authority, overseeing daily operations on the Elevated Lines within one of the nation's busiest transit systems.

Today, Gabriel has come full circle, returning to Cornerstone Systems to lead the Chicago office. He brings decades of operational experience, a deep understanding of transportation systems, and a leadership style grounded in accountability, consistency, and people-first decision making.

Gabriel's involvement with Ctrl Shift is deeply personal. Having grown up in Little Village, he understands firsthand how limited exposure, not lack of ability — often shapes the ceiling for young people in underserved communities. His own path was influenced by access to education, mentorship, and environments that pushed him to think beyond what was immediately visible.

Through Ctrl Shift, Gabriel is committed to helping bridge that gap for the next generation. He believes that early exposure to technology, digital literacy, and emerging tools like artificial intelligence can fundamentally shift how young people see themselves and their future. Beyond technical skills, he is passionate about instilling confidence, discipline, and a sense of ownership — equipping students not just to participate in the modern economy, but to lead within it.
